GoProvidence Executive Exchange welcome sign at a networking reception

Inside GoProvidence's Executive Exchange: Real Feedback from Real Planners

The meetings industry is built on relationships, and the best relationships are built on listening.

That's why we recently hosted our first GoProvidence Executive Exchange, bringing together 13 meeting and convention planners from around the country for 36 hours of candid conversations about what destinations are doing well, where they're falling short, and what planners need most from their partners.

The goal wasn't to sell Providence. The goal was to learn.

Creating a Customer Advisory Board

The participating planners will now serve as GoProvidence's customer advisory board, providing ongoing feedback on our sales, services and marketing efforts.

Too often, destinations make decisions based on assumptions. We wanted to hear directly from the people who are sourcing venues, managing budgets, navigating stakeholder expectations, and creating attendee experiences every day.

Their feedback will help shape future priorities and identify opportunities for improvement across our organization.

What We Learned

Several themes emerged throughout the discussions:

  • Meeting planners continue to value destinations that are easy to navigate and walkable.
  • Authentic local experiences remain an important differentiator.
  • Responsiveness, flexibility and partnership matter as much as facilities and amenities.
  • Attendees increasingly expect meaningful experiences beyond the convention center walls.

While these themes aligned with many of the trends we're already seeing in the marketplace, the discussions provided valuable perspective and added depth to our understanding. Hearing these priorities reinforced by experienced planners representing different market segments, organizations and regions of the country gave us greater confidence in where to focus our efforts moving forward.

Experiencing Providence Firsthand

Of course, we also wanted our guests to experience Providence as attendees would.

Over the course of the visit, planners gathered at the Renaissance Providence Hotel and Track 15, connected with a local artist at the Providence Art Club, and experienced the hospitality and catering expertise of the Rhode Island Convention Center.

These experiences helped showcase what makes meetings in Providence unique: a walkable downtown, distinctive venues and a destination where everything feels connected.

The Value of Listening

One of the most productive investments a destination can make is to create space for honest feedback.

We're grateful to the planners who shared their time and expertise, to Brad Weaber for facilitating the conversations, and to the members of the GoProvidence team who helped bring the Executive Exchange to life.

The meetings industry is constantly evolving. The destinations that succeed are the ones that continue to listen, learn and adapt alongside their customers. This was a great first step, and we're excited about what comes next.
